Even Rip Van Winkle would have trouble sleeping through the sound of a Formula 1 car revving up. So if nothing can wake you normally, try the McLaren Mercedes MP 4/17 Alarm Clock.
The McLaren Mercedes Alarm Clock ‘gently' wakes you to the sound of a real Formula 1 engine. And when we say real, we mean it. This isn't some crappy simulator that actually sounds more like your dad's snoring. The sound on this gadget was directly and realistically recorded from the car itself. In fact, the recording technique used was specially developed for this purpose.
The McLaren Mercedes Alarm Clock features a replica of the Mercedes model driven by 2002 Monaco Grand Prix champion David Coulthard. All the details are there, right down to the sponsor's logo. The car is mounted on a sloping racetrack on top of the sound box and clock base.
Want to hear a demo of the sounds of the McLaren Mercedes before you wake up to them? Just push a few buttons, and you can hear an amazingly realistic reproduction of the start, acceleration and slowing down phases of a top class racing car. You can switch the 0.5W / 4 Ohms loudspeaker between high and low, depending on your taste.
Press the start button to activate the original ignition and ‘tick over' sequences. Continually press the accelerator button to trigger an acoustic reproduction of the car's acceleration, right up to ‘top speed' or maximum revs per minute. Once the accelerator button is released, the revving sound decreases to a tick over level. After a few seconds in neutral, the sound automatically switches off.
The digital clock and its alarm are easy to set. The SET button is to the left of the start button, with the MODE button to the right. As well as the time and alarm functions, it features an hourly signal and date display.
If you're a Formula 1 nut, this is a dream gadget. And if you make Sleeping Beauty look like an insomniac, the roar of a McLaren Mercedes engine could be just what you need to get you out of bed on time.
